St. Paul’s Lutheran Church
Confirmation Requirements
2009-2010
Parents Requirements
When Martin Luther
originally wrote the Small Catechism, many people didn’t know what being a
Christian was all about. In order to remedy that situation, he wrote the Small
Catechism to be used by the Parents to assist them in teaching their families
about Christianity. He added to the title of each section these words, “In the
plain form in which the head of the family shall teach them to his household”.
Although the church has now taken up the primary duty of this instruction you as
parents still have the responsibility to see that your child receives and
understands this instruction. Therefore we ask you to be diligent in carrying
out your responsibilities some of which we have outlined here.
1) Fill out and return the Registration Form along with whatever
fee is required. 2) Please
get your child to class on time. 3)
Attend the Parents Nights. These will be held three or four times throughout
the year. Please check the schedule and pencil them in on your calendar.
4) We ask that you stay informed by reading, signing, and
returning the progress reports that are sent home to you.
5) We ask that you support, help, and pray for the students,
staff, and Pastor during the year.
Confirmation Sunday: Sunday,
June 6, 2010 at 11:00 AM.
Students Requirements
Class Attendance:
All students are required to attend the confirmation classes on
Wednesdays (Sundays during Lent 10:50 AM to 12:10PM). Class will start promptly
at 6:15 PM and end at 8:00 PM. Students should be prepared
by bringing their binder, Bible, Catechism, handbook, and something to
write with to every class. Students who are late 3 times or who miss a class
will be required to do makeup work. If unable to attend a class, please notify
Ginger Lee so we know you will be absent.
Church Attendance: All students are required to attend church. Church services are held on Saturdays at 6:30 PM or Sundays at 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM. Serious attendance deficiencies will result in an assignment for makeup. Please note: Students must sign the Fellowship Card so that their attendance is recorded.
Service to Church and
Community: All students will be scheduled to acolyte or cross bear at
least 6 times during the year. Practice for both will take place for about 10
minutes after class the Wednesday before the student is scheduled. (Schedules
will be handed out periodically throughout the year.) Students may also
volunteer to acolyte on Saturday nights. If you are unable to do the assigned
time, please notify David Thomas ASAP, so a replacement can be found.
Students will also be
required to attend service projects throughout the year. Students who miss these
projects will be given an assignment as makeup.
Youth Group:
All students will be required to attend 1 youth activity every quarter.
Examples of youth activities are Friday night SPY Room or Lock-Ins. A schedule
of events will be provide each quarter or watch the church bulletin for
information about such activities.
Work
Required: 1) Sermon Reports: All students are required to
complete 25 sermon reports for the year. Blank report forms are available in the
narthex. When completed they can be dropped off in the box in the narthex or
brought to the next class. It is the responsibility of the student to hand in
their reports by the next class, so that their progress report accurately
reflects how many they have completed. Sermon reports not handed in within 2
weeks will not be counted. 2)
Memory Work: All students are required to do the assigned memory work each week.
They will be given a list of verses to memorize with the due dates for when each
is due. 3) Homework will be
assigned weekly by the group leader. Homework assigned is due by the next class.
4) Tests: There will be tests given throughout the year on the
topics we cover. Students will be given study sheets 2 weeks before each test.
In order to pass the test the student must score a 70 or higher.
Incomplete
Work: If work is not properly completed in any of the required
areas, students will be given make-up work. ALL WORK will need to be
completed in order to move up to the next class or to be confirmed.
Progress
Reports: Parents and students will be given progress reports
throughout the year, so they can monitor their completion of the work. These
must be signed and returned. Questions can be directed to Ginger Lee or the
students small group leader.
